Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Today is a day just for us girls!

My hubby is gone for the day and early evening, attending meetings and seeing some of his coworkers. It's just me and the girls today, my daughters.

I have some cards to finish up creating (Stay tuned for those!), but besides that, no big plans.

We'll see what the day brings.
I love how a day can just unravel and bring welcome surprises!

Not sure yet if it's gonna be warm enough for sun and swimming.
Early tonite, the plan is for a movie.

Just me and the girls today.
So cmon, do any of you out there have any GREAT ideas for me?

Ever Wanna Be Unplugged?

I found a great quote today.

"Being solitary is being alone well;
being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice,

aware of the fullness of your own presence

rather than of the absence of others.
Because solitude is an achievement."
~ Alice Koller

I personally LOVE this quote.
Solitude really is an achievement.

Some people love being alone, they relish in the quiet, relish in their own quiet thoughts. These people are happy and confident to be alone, anywhere.
Others hate it, always needing to be surrounded by external stimuli - not feeling very comfortable at all, in their own skin.
-------------
I have to say, I've always been confident in my own skin.
Fiercely independent.
I never apologize. Never. It's who I am.
I think people that know me are surprised to hear how independent I can be, if only given the chance, the opportunity, the time away from the normal routines of life, to do so.

I crave it sometimes.
I crave the solitude. That 'alone-ness.' That feeling of being alone somewhere, safe, doing my own thing, without having to answer to anyone for days on end.
I relish in the chance to be alone like that.

Sure I go on Scrapbooking Retreats and those are great fun, don't get me wrong. I create and have so much fun with other women! We laugh, we share, and so enjoy each others' company. I go on a few a year, and every one, I LOVE LOVE LOVE! It's wonderful having the time to create like that for days on end.

But there are times, when I just crave even more solitude than that.

Alone-time. I'm not afraid of it.
I don't feel I have to spend time with my loved ones every waking moment.
Sometimes, I need the quiet. I need MY TIME. Just for me.
Is that being selfish? Too self-centered? I don't think it is, do you?

At times, I'd like to just disappear for a few days, a weekend, a week - and be comfortable in my skin. My loved ones can find out what I did and what I accomplished after I'm back.

In this world of constant connection, there are times when I wish I could just be unplugged for awhile.

UNPLUGGED.

(I'd still bring my laptop in case I had the urge to work on my memoir and write my heart out, and I'd still bring my cell phone in case I needed it for an emergency, but besides that, I wouldn't use them for anything else. I would stop blogging for a few days. Shock! I would!)

I wouldn't make any calls.
I wouldn't surf the internet and connect on facebook.
I wouldn't update my facebook status.
I wouldn't twitter.
I wouldn't check my e-mails.
I wouldn't call anyone.

I would just ENJOY ME. My solitude.
The time away - for me.

And I'd come home happy and refreshed.
Rejuvenated.

Some people might not get it.
Some people might think of themselves, and wonder why I would wanna spend time by myself and not with them? To these people, I would say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. To these people, I would say, it's not always about them. To these people, I would say - hanging on to other people too tightly is not always a good thing. I'm reminded of a great quote I read when I was a kid, 'If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it's yours, if it doesn't, it never was.' So true.

I think deep down, we all crave our own personal freedom.
Yes, we want to feel loved and cherished by those we love, of course we do.

But we also want to feel free. Free to be ourselves.
Free to do and experience things we want to do, sometimes - all alone!
It shouldn't be thought of, as a bad thing.
I think a person should always feel free.

Wanting to have that solitude, that 'alone-time' SHOULD NEVER BE frowned upon, or discouraged. Instead, I believe - it should be encouraged and celebrated!

Right now, I'm reading these two books, and looking forward to turning the pages!
Unplugged: How to Disconnect from the Rat Race, Have an Existential Crisis, and Find Meaning and Fulfillment (Culture Tools)
Changing Your Course: The 5-Step Guide to Getting the Life You Want (Live What You Love)

I can't wait to be 'unplugged' one day soon.
Time away for JUST ME.
No pressure to be accountable every day, every night, to anyone.
Just some time for JUST ME.

I think having the time to be alone and confident in your own skin, without others - is healthy and to be celebrated. Time for me, to write if I wanna. Time for me to just have a few days for just me. So... here's the question -- what are your thoughts?

Should I, or shouldn't I??

Monday Cards!

I spent some time this morning creating in my Studio today.
Just playing and having fun!

Whoo Are U.

I made this Owl Card above this morning. The die cut is from my Cricut, used buttons for eyes and added a little Unity 'for you' sentiment against the worn grid background, with some bigger alpha stickers - get it?? 'How are you' is spelled 'Whoo are you' just for fun!

Hello. Enjoy. Be Happy.

I also had fun making this 3-Card Set using some worn pages out of an old book I have, the flower stamp is from the Unity June Kit of the Month, the one word sentiments are from Unity, and the 'be happy' diecut is from Pebbles. Added some flowers for a punch of color!

What do you all think?

Black and White.

"Nothing is ever just black and white."

I gleaned this idea from a card magazine I saw over the weekend at the bookstore! It's a simple idea. Print out the sentiment from your computer. Stamp some images on white cardstock, using Black Ink. Add something for some color and voila! You are done!

I made this 3-Card Set using some kraft and black cardstock and some golden ribbon.

All stamps are Unity, including the stamped golden butterflies!

Photo Cards.

Another idea I had over the weekend.

We all have photos that are extras, just laying around. We're not doing anything with them, so why not turn them into a cute card with a cute little saying? Something funny, to make people laugh. Or something inspirational. Or just a card that says Hello or Howdy!

I gathered 6 photographs out of my stash and adhered them to the blank cards.

The next part was fun and easy! I gathered all my white/cream alpha stickers and started spelling out the phrases I wanted to use -- so fun!

Just think, you can use colored photos or black & white photos!

So easy and fun!

Just use your imagination, and make them fun if you want to!

---------
That was my creating time for today.
6 Photo Cards
2 3-Card Sets
1 Owl Card
Total 13 Cards!

In Bloom!

Yesterday, we spent some time in a local park here in Fargo.
The day was perfect and I took these pictures around 8pm at night, the light was just perfect.

The bright colors of the flowers in bloom made for such a spectacular background!

My two girls enjoying the day.

Love these pictures!
A few of these I'll definitely be framing, for sure!

Having Faith For Your Dreams.

Do we have enough faith?
Do we ever have enough faith?

We all have dreams.

Some more attainable than others, it seems.
Some days, our dreams seem so far out of reach.
I know that's how it is for me.
I'm being real today.

~ Abandoned dock in MN on a crisp fall day.
Photograph taken by me and my trusty digital camera! ~

At times, the dreams I have down deep are so far away. Those dreams I have - deep inside - seem like a world away. I wonder at times if I'll ever get there, if I'll ever see the dreams I have in my heart. If what I wish for -- will become true... do you out there, ever feel this way?

Let me share with you something today.
Let it renew your faith. Let it give you hope today, no matter what you wish for, no matter how far your dreams seem to be --
-----------
Yesterday I watched a small bird, flying very fast, disappear into the canopy of an oak tree. So dense were its leaves that it was impossible to see what happened next, though I can tell you it remained inside.

I wondered how the little bird found its opening through the leaves at such a speed, and then managed to gently align its fragile body on the branch it chose to land upon, all within a fraction of a second. Not to mention the impossible to imagine flying maneuvers required: the banking, the curling, the vertical and horizontal stabilizations, the deceleration and landing.

Memory? Calculation? Not in that tiny brain. Instinct? Maybe, but
how does instinct know which way the branches of a tree have grown when no two are the same?

That little bird just knew. It had faith, in spite of not being able to see how things would work out, that if (and only if) it stayed the course the details would be taken care of; that an opening would appear and a twig would be found. In fact, had she slowed down enough to carefully and logically inspect the tree first, the prudent thing to do, she would have lost her lift and fallen to the ground.

Kind of like reaching for your dreams. Neither memory, nor calculating, nor instincts are the deciding factors, but faith coupled with action.

------------------
Faith and action.

Like the tiny birds of the air, let us all grow our faith just a bit today.
Those dreams and wishes of mine - suddenly, don't seem that far away.

Help me to have MORE FAITH in my daily life.
Help me to believe in what's possible further ahead up the road.
Help me to believe in myself more.
Help me to hold onto my faith,
when there are days I feel my dreams will never happen.
And help me to do something towards my dreams.
To make those dreams become reality, sooner.
Help me.

These are my thoughts this morning.

Turning The Pages.

A relaxing Sunday.
After being completely lazy this morning, and not doing much at all -- we all decided to stay out of the sun today and relax indoors. We watched a movie on TV this morning - and after lunch, decided to venture out to our local Barnes and Noble Booksellers to browse and turn the pages of the latest books.

Fun for me! So my thing!

I think we all had fun! The girls and hubby - were busy going through books and magazines, and what did I look at? I grabbed a stack of some of my fave magazines and some crafting books and found a nice quiet corner table to sit in the Starbucks -- and started turning the pages.

Love that.
A quiet place and wonderful bright images and engaging text.
A nice cold sweet tea.

There's nothing quite like losing yourself in a good book or a good magazine!

So much inspiration!

I brought along my idea book and a pen, and sketched out a bunch of card and project ideas, with some great ideas for future projects! Now I've got the creative bug and I don't know when I'll have time to create in my Studio today! Grrr, don't you just hate that? LOL

It's all okay.
Time to create will find me.
I just have to realize it when it happens.
------
While at the bookstore, while browsing through one of the card magazines, I happened to see some of my dear friends from the Unity forums published in this magazine!

How exciting for them!
It was great to see some new ideas, using some of the Unity stamp sets I already own!
The cards in the magazine used these sets:

So fun seeing my friends' published works! Kudos to them!

All in all, it was a really fun day!
-----------------
I even came home with a new book for me to read!
I love a good summer book!

You On Top: Smart, Sexy Skills Every Woman Needs to Set the World on Fire

This was in the Bargain Books and for only $5.00, I figured fun to read!

At my age, why not try to be more sexy?
More stylish?
More fun?
More successful?
It's never too late, that's what I say!

OK, so who's with me?
(Who loves being on top? Wait! Don't answer that! LOL LOL)

Tutorial - Cranking Out All Those Card Sets!

A lot of you requested that I share my secrets with you.
Secrets, what secrets?? LOL
------
{Cranking Out Those Card Sets!}
Tutorial!

So many of you often comment to me, 'How do you crank out so many cards/sets all at one time? How do you do it?'

Well, here we go, are you ready?
It's really not as hard as you may think!

Part 1 - The Ideas/Inspiration!

We all have ideas and inspiration.

We get it from everywhere.
  • Other creative souls around us, both in real life and online.
  • We read message boards, look through galleries, blogs and creative websites.
  • We gain inspiration from the pretty-colored design of a piece of patterned paper or a colorful button.
  • We look through one of our favorite home decor magazines or a store flyer, and suddenly, that fabric, that design - speaks to us.
  • We drive around and see a billboard with a certain color combination, and right away, the creative soul in us thinks of a future project!
  • We browse around our local Target and the colorful patterns and designs of this season's swimsuits speak to us and suddenly, we have a card idea!

Or is this only me? LOL

Ideas and inspiration really are everywhere these days!
Making one card, one layout, one project - or a complete card set! - starts with this.
The inspiration.
Time to take notice of what inspires YOU. Live your life with your eyes wide open.

Part 2 - Idea Book/Inspiration Journal!

Do you have one?
It could be as simple as one spiral notebook or composition book from the school supplies section, a blank journal, or it could be a notebook you've put together yourself. It could be a binder with a bunch of page protectors in it, where you slide in your magazine pages, your thoughts, your ideas, design patterns from flyers ,etc.

Is there a place where you keep your inspiration, so you don't forget about it later, as your life gets busy? Cmon, I know your life gets busy. I know mine sure does. There's NO WAY I could keep all my creative ideas in my head! I have to sketch my ideas, write them down, keep them - somewhere!

It can be as simple as a little purse-size notebook, that you keep near you as you are surfing blogs and online galleries. When you see a card/project you wanna try, sketch the idea, write yourself some notes. Bookmark the page. So later on, you can look at the sketch - and try it yourself! Keep a pen and paper handy.. I have a little book by my desk where I usually surf on my laptop, it's always there!

This is why we all share our works, our creative awesomeness online. To inspire others! I find it's a huge compliment when someone copies one of my ideas - I'm humbled and happy when that happens! We're all here to help and inspire one another.. to make each others' life just a bit lighter. That's the way I see it.

Part 3 - Gather!

Start with the idea and the inspiration. Look around you.

What's there in your creative space? Where you create?
Time to gather the supplies you'll need to start making stuff.

Pull out those papers, those stickers, those stamps, those embellishments, those strips of ribbon. This is how I do it. I take out a bunch of different things all at once. I lay them out before me on my desk, and I look. See what goes together.. I take a look at the patterns, the colors - and I choose what works FOR ME.
I don't think what so-and-so might use.

No! I create what makes me happy!

I look at all the happy designs, the colors, the textures, and go from there. I think of the stamps I wanna use. I look at my stamp stash and decide what I want to use. I look at what I have, the papers and everything else, then I make a decision what I wanna use for the idea I have in mind, and then, I put all the rest away.

Keep in mind, this step right here, can often take some time. When you're sitting there and looking at all the choices, at times, it can take awhile to decide, there are so many wonderful products out there!

Next - I'm now ready to create!

Part 4 - Assembly!

Usually, the first thing I do is make my card blanks, if I don't have them already cut and scored/folded. I usually make at least 4-8 at a time! (If I'm not using pre-made blank cards!)

From here, the steps are different depending on what kind of project you are creating. Let's talk card- making. In general, this is what I do:
  • I usually cut out all my cardstock and designer paper fronts first - to fit the card front. I cut all these first, and adhere to all the cardfronts first before I add my other layers/embellishments!
  • I then work on my other card panels, or sentiment strips/shapes. For these I use stamps or pre-made die cuts. If there are multiple layers to the card, I usually trim up everything first and have it all in piles beside me.
  • Now it's time to play! I start assembling the stamped pieces and papers, and making one card at a time, I add my various embellishments, ribbons, and flowers. I play till what I see, works for me! So fun! After making one I really love, I continue to make the rest, a cohesive set. I may use dft papers, a different color flower, but the design is the same!
  • And voila, I'm done! I have a card-set in front of me, that I just love!
It really can be that easy!

So to summarize, here's the short version of how I crank out those card sets:
  1. It all starts with what inspires you. Look around. Color and design is everywhere!
  2. Write your ideas and your inspiration down! You don't expect to always recall all this stuff, do you? I know I can't.. I have to write down what inspires me! Have a book to write your ideas down. Sketch. Have an Idea Book or an Inspiration Journal. Make it your own.
  3. Time to gather your supplies around you and decide what you wanna use! This is the fun part! Take your time and decide on your raw supplies, make it fun! Combine items that before, you may have thought would never work. Be daring.
  4. Make them! Assemble your cards using the supplies you've chosen in front of you. Go with similar designs and colors.. varying the colors up a notch if you want! Add a flower here, a flower there. Some bling here, some bling there. A ribbon here, a ribbon there.
And soon, you're done!
Making cohesive card-sets doesn't have to be hard!
It can be so much fun!

Try it and see!
And remember, Card Sets make beautiful gifts! Everyone enjoys getting some handmade cards to use for future events, or just because! Make some today!

My Saturday.

It's the weekend!
What are your plans today and tomorrow?
Anything fun?
-------
We're headed outside again today, to enjoy the sun and the water together!

Edited 130 pm: the wind is a bit chilly,
we might have a change in plans!

We might go and browse in a bookstore instead!

We usually head on over to BUFFALO RIVER STATE PARK about 20 minutes from our home. Lots of trees and green grass, picnic tables, bbqs, and a beautiful sand-bottomed lake filled with clean water! So much fun! Showers and bathrooms nearby.

It's perfect!
--------
I ventured out to Target first thing this morning to pick up some fruit-flavored waters on sale this week, 4 for $1.50 - such a great deal! I picked up 8 4-packs in various flavors, we're set - 32 bottles of flavored waters now, each only costing me about 37 cents!

Fun flavors like:
  • Pineapple Mango
  • Kiwi Watermelon
  • Lemon Raspberry
and more!

While at Target, I found some cute scrapbooking items, more on those later! I promise!
Just let me say this - I can't wait to create in my Studio now!

I've already got some great GREAT ideas!
---------
So that's my day so far... gonna go out and enjoy the sun a bit later.
Catch some rays. And have fun together!

More later, you know me!

Wish Sticks x 4!

I have another four-Card Set to share with you!

It's Friday, time for HIP HOP HANGOVER!

Hip Hop Hangover

Scoot over here to Angela's blog here and click on the DT Member blogs for some great inspiration, as well as do today's blog hop - it's our turn to shine as Unity customers!

I made another Card Set using the business-size card fronts I recently purchased from Michael's. Click here for my prior blog post and Card Set using these card fronts .. love them!

I made this set earlier this week, and I gotta say, so far, it's one of my favorites!

Easy peasy, using all Unity stamps of course!

I used the Unity Wish Sticks image, click here to purchase yours!
The 'miracle' sentiment is from the June KIT OF THE MONTH, while the 'celebrate' sentiment is from the Unity set, Sentiments O' Simple!

To tie the image and the sentiment together, I used the Unity Worn Grid stamp -- I love this stamp! So versatile.. can you imagine using this on your cards and scrapbook pages? Just imagine all the possibilities!

I embellished all four cards with some brown Bazzil flowers and some ribbon for a punch of color! Love them!

Leave some love and let me know what you think!
Unity stamps are by far, some of my most favorite stamps!
Have you made your first Unity order yet?

Just Disappointed, That's All.

I know I shouldn't rant and rave.
I know I shouldn't vent.

But it's my blog and well, some days, I just feel like just saying what I'm feeling, instead of what everyone out there expects of me. I'm human. I get disappointed.
I can admit that. And still be gracious.

If you read my post here, you know just yesterday, I made two design teams!
I'm thrilled, since both of them involve writing, which I love - too! Besides the creative side!
I love to write! It's so much a part of me!
I'm thrilled to be involved with both these sites!

Just this past week, I also was trying for a GUEST DESIGN TEAM spot over here at Unity.
I've been in love with Unity stamps for over 4 months now!
Most of my creative projects include Unity stamps, just because I really love the designs, the friends I've made, and their awesome customer service, not to mention their giveaways and their specials and sales!

I'm just disappointed I didn't get it.
I'm human.
I'm sad and disappointed it wasn't me.

I really tried hard, like so many others out there, I know that.
We all did.

I guess I was just secretly wishing it would have been me.

Don't mind my rant and my venting. Like I said, I'm human. Just disappointed and a bit sad this afternoon. Forgive me and please don't judge me for saying what's on my heart.

Untie The Ribbon!

Here are some birthday cards I made last night - for a birthday card Challenge!

Here above is the first!
Navy cardstock, cardstock stickers, alpha stickers, paper flower and stamped sentiment and calendar by Unity Stamps. (I love the Calendar stamp -- just circle the month and the date and you're done! So versatile, Part of the Unity CONFESSION set!)

Here are two more above!
These are clean and simple, with lots of white space!
Love that sentiment stamp from Unity, one of my faves!

Being Remembered.

Loving one another.
It's what we should do.

I recorded the Michael Jackson Memorial that was on television earlier today, and couldn't help but be moved by the music and the lyrics sung in tribute to such a talented man.

Lionel Ritchie moved me by the song he sang.
Such truth and emotion in those words.
Wow.

As Queen Latifah shared the words of Poet Maya Angelou, 'we had him.'

He was a gift to all of us - whether we knew him personally or just admired him from afar.

Such a moving tribute.
You can't help but be moved when you watch this.
I hope you all take the time to watch it.
It's available to view online everywhere.

Being remembered.

As you get older it's something you think about more and more.
How will I be remembered?

What will people remember about me?
What will be the positive things they will remember about me?
Will I have made a difference?

What will people say about me, after I'm gone?

6x6 Layouts Under Glass!

I created these two 6x6 layouts using Unity stamps, of course!

These are two more of my entries into the GUEST DESIGN TEAM MEMBER Challenge currently going on at the Unity Forums at the SCS site here!

After creating the layouts, I chose to put each into a 6x6 clip frame - love how they look!

I've been into orange and pink lately, and well, you know me, you gotta have some bright flowers somewhere! LOL The Plaid Frame stamp and the quote stamp are both from Unity stamps - love them!

These were really easy and fun to make!
I've been into clean and simple, and white space lately - love the look!
Let me know what you all think!

Books!

Today, the girls and I managed to get to our local library to take out some books for our summer reading times -- fun!

Both girls came home with a few books, and so did I!

I brought home some Disney travel guides since we'll be visiting DisneyLand later this summer in California - fun to read about all the rides and park advice!

I also brought home EAT, PRAY, LOVE still haven't read this book, and I know they're making a movie, so I'd like to read the book before the movie comes out, we'll see how far I get! Brought home a few to peruse through in the next few weeks, fun for me!

What are YOU reading this summer?

Monday Plans!

How was your weekend everyone?

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend with the people that mean the most to you.. that's my wish for all of you. Life is always better when you share your days with the people that mean the most to you, right? I know that's how I feel.

Days are always better for me, when my daughters are here with me.
Always. I'm so glad it's summer!
------------------------
Today I have a few things I wanna accomplish:
  • go to our local library and pick up some books for summer reading! I know the girls wanna find some books too!
  • finish up my GUEST DESIGN TEAM challenge entries for Unity Stamps! I have a few more ideas, and I'd love to get them done in the next days, as the deadline for entries is this Wednesday! Wish me luck!
What's shaping up for you today?

Anything fun?
More to blog later!
